ortsuri are widely revered across the region for their fierce determination in the pursuit of prey. this has led the fisherman of the fourth district to befriend them to learn of the best places to find fresh catches. ortsuri are fast agile swimmers and can leap out of the water at incredible heights. it seems this pokemon enjoys the spotlight brought by its glorious feats, some even perform tricks for berries and cheers. before fishermen realized their usefulness, many would try to ensnare them in rope traps. the ortsuri learned how to use the rope tied around its tail as its own trap for its opponents. wild ortsuri are commonly found within the waters of the fourth district. though some have been spotted in the colder waters of the seventh district during pankasu’s warmer season.
this is one of my favorite designs because of the beautiful colorations. district 4 is known for its access to the coast. it is makes up parts of california, nevada, oregon, washington, and idaho. because of district 4 notoriety for fishing and the water industry, i know i wanted a water dwelling pokémon. and the orca, the state animal of washington, was a perfect fit. for the design i wanted to have the orca pattern shown while also making it look more organic and resemble the shape of broken landmasses surrounded by water. then, i added the rope-like accent to its tail fin to add more to the story while also tying back to the history of fishing. then, i used a trident like accent on the dorsal fin as a slight nod to the trident on empoleon and finnick o'dair's use of a trident during the games. the shiny version resembles more of the murky sandy waters closer to the shore.
