pronunciation: ring-dane-key
the ring-tailed pokémon
height: 1’02” (0.4 m)
weight: 2.2 lbs (1 kg)
when attacked with a water based move, it surges electricity shocking the opponent and has a chance to paralyze. this also raises its attack stat.
this small cat-like pokémon is charged with electrical energy. the small pouches on the side of its face helps store the energy they’ve collected until they let it out in large bursts to attack or to provide external power. ringdenki are native to the fifth district, where they are often spotted resting along the power lines of the many electrical factories there. it is also capable of using its large bushy tail to collect and store static electricity. ringdenki much prefer the heights of trees and power lines, however, on very rare occasions they can be seen swimming around the man-made lake near the hydro-electric dam in the fifth district. while they may seem abrasive at first, once they form a bond with a trainer they become incredibly attached. though trainers should be careful, as often with a good head scratch, ringdenki will spark out bolts of lightning from its cheeks to show its satisfaction
a cornerstone of a new pokémon region, both in canon universe and in fan-made regions, is the pika-clone. a pika-clone is a reference to the og, pikachu. these designs are recognizable by being cute, electric-type, and often a rodent-like animal. this is what heavily influenced the design for this district since district 5 is known for its production of electricity. district 5 is made up of utah and most of Arizona. the state animal of arizona is the ring-tailed cat (a mammal of the raccoon family). once i had the basic shape defined, the design was fairly easy. the cheek pouches and tail accents resemble conductive metal and the main body is a yellow-ish coloration to callback to its electic typing. then for the shiny variant of ringdenki i wanted to do a subtle blue tone as a reference to the hydro-electric dam in district 5 and more of a copper color for the conductive accents.
