pankasu folklore tells of a pokémon that brought berries and farming processes to humankind. it is believed that the pokémon of this story is shukacow, known for the large berry bush of fur that grows around it's neck. because of its amazing ability to produce ripen berries, shukacow is a popular pokémon seen all throughout the eleventh district, responsible for the agriculture of pankasu. while some farmers choose to keep herds of shukacow instead of traditional farming, many choose to use shukacow as extra help around the crops hauling equipment or protecting themselves from pokémon struck by mange. in the wild, shukacows travel in large herds, the largest female leading them on their journey. a shukacow is very proud of its berry bushes, to pick one without permission could easily land you a strong strike of it's horn. though despite their pridefulness, many pokémon and trainers can rely on shukacow to provide food when in a time of need.
district eleven, home to shukacow, spans across several southern states. those being texas, oklahoma, arkansas, mississippi, and some of alabama. for this design, i knew i wanted to take influence from the popular longhorn commonly associated with texas and oklahoma, plus with eleven's agriculture industry it worked well. the design was fairly simple, taking inspiration from tauros with the tan-sandy coloring. i knew i wanted the front patch of fur on its chest into a berry bush of some kind, so i took a little bit of inspiration from the highland cow for the shaggy coat. then for the berries, i wanted to utilize the berries found throughout different pokémon games and regions. the shiny variant is a simple flip-flop of the body color and hoof colors.
