this group studio project was sponsored by the us forest service. we were tasked with retro-fitting the pre-existing donation boxes at us forest hot-spots
poor aesthetic language
ability to "fish" money through large gap
large under-utilized space
awkward size makes transfer difficult
limited visibility when unlocking
eye-catching aesthetics
anti-fishing steel bars inside
circular look for easier visibility
top handle for easy carry
door for added storage
as a proof of concept, we created a full-scale cardboard model so that the us forest agent could bring it back to the office and get additional opinions on it to hopefully implement our changes
handle on top provides easier transport to and from donation site
added teeth and more secure money slot prevents fishing line, string, or hands from retrieving money
hinged door to store and protect brochures or other informational materials
more cohesive and succinct information on top with cashless option for donation
horizontal lock access for visibility, efficient locking, and curbs use of bolt cutters
painted on designs using stencil to strengthen visual language and appeal
