as the final culmination of everything i learned during my semester of materials and processing, we were tasked with the challenge to design and fabricate a table that incorporated metal and wood.
through my sketching process, i knew i wanted to try to create a table that would function as a sort of drafting paper. as i continued, i realized some highlights of what i wanted to make sure the design included; some of this includes:
a roll of paper for unlimited sketching,
storage and organization for utensils
some sort of cutting area for easy removal.
once i had a rough idea of what the design would look like, i needed to develop it further based on the materials and tools i had available. here is the material list i stumbled on:
white oak table top and red high density polyethylene for the tabletop
strips of white oak wood with nylon webbing for the basket
steel angle iron legs with steel rod supports
after a whole lot of work, the drawing table was complete! the basket acts as a way to hold your roll of paper while it goes through the slit in the plastic. once you've finished your drawing, drag your drawing to the other end. using an x-acto knife or another cutting tool, you are able to separate your drawing from the roll.
additionally, I created a small pencil holder to aid in sketching.
